Hi, kids! Thanks for all your kind congrats about the Macavity. I did not win the Anthony--Laura Lippman, a very fine writer, did--but It Was an Honor to Be Nominated. Well, hey, it was! The convention in Manhattan, Ks. was really fun, and the best part was getting to chatter for hours with Diane on our drives to and fro.
I hope y'all had a lovely weekend, with plenty of slacker time.
For the next month, you will probably get no substance from me. I not only have a lot of traveling to do, but I'm digging in DEEP into my book and a short story that's due soon. (At least I finally got an idea for it.) At first I thought maybe I'll just close down the blog for a few weeks, but I don't really want to do that, and I'd miss you guys. So I decided not to disappear--except for the weekends when I'm gone. I'm just not going to to try to write any posts that say much more than "Hi. See you in the comments." I figure the real blessing of doing this blog is visiting with you guys in the comments, anyway.
So I hope you'll put up with stupid posts for a while!
Oh, and see you in the comments. :)

Halloooo! Halloooo! (nice echo you got in here)
Monday Picture Post: let the sunshine in.
Yum,nice photo you got in here.
It rained like a sumbeetch yesterday afternoon when we were on the highway, and now it's crisp, cool, and sunny, my fav kind o' weather. It feels like your picture looks, Andi. Thanks!
So glad to hear the birds are returning to the roost after the weekend of flying here and there.
Katiebird: Thank you much for vsiting ghostfolk.com
It's not much, but I am integrating it to a blog, which is finally connected. But the blog's not much, either. :-)
Frankly, I don't know how to do any of this. Any blog tips from all the blog maintainers who visit here would be greatly appreciated!
Ghostie, I really love your front page. I can't find any place to locate the blog or leave a comment, though. Are those still In Progress? Given your theme, I think your blog is going to be REALLY fun and interesting.
I can't think of any advice to give. Seems like you're doing everything right so far.
p.s. ghost--please let me know when it's time for me to put a link on my front page.
Last week I promised to put up some missing links and didn't get it done. I will eventually!
If you enjoy the fun of reading a horoscope, go to the link on my front page to find a lengthy one for you this month.
Oops, I see she doesn't have the October horos up yet.
Oh, Nancy -- I'm sorry. How did that person (at the blog I linked to) get it so wrong?
Oh, I see -- I miss-read what she said. (sigh) I'm VERY sorry.
Easy to get it wrong, cause there are so many awards! (I'm happy to say.) They were actually talking about a completely different award--the Barry, which is what I won last year for a short story.
KB, no problem! Hey, there are much worse things than people thinking I won an award I didn't actually win. :)
Ah ha, Nancy!
I am so clever that I disgusied my blog link at the website under some other stupid title. This is the sort of clever that lands me lost every time I try to drive somewhere. :-)

I like the blog site real well, but I don't know how to blog yet. I need lessons.
Hi Nancy.
Well if ya gotta, I guess ya gotta, but I'm glad you decided to not completely shut down for a few weeks.
Andi very nice picture. Reminds me of a picture of a rain forest.
Hey Ghost. It looks like a nice beginning for your blog. Don't know how I could help, but if I can, let me know.
Morning KB. I'm off to your place now.
On the other hand, if a blog is a log kept by a clod, I'm cheesecake!
Hi ghostfolk(.com) & Andif & FamilyMan. I'm back at work (or as we call it at home: Rest)
I found your blog link, and you're right--Big Smile--that there's no way to tell it's a blog from the link. Cute, though. :)
I hadn't been to your website before! For some reason I thought it wasn't ready for viewing. I really like both sites a lot.
When are you going to open the blog for comments? Or did I miss that connection, too?!
Good to see you back, Nancy! (and everyone else too!)
I did a little of everything I wanted to do this weekend, but not enough of any of it. Such is life, eh?
Ghost, blogging is easy. Just write about whatever you feel like hanging out in the breeze and hit "Publish." Works for me, anyway.
Hi, fm and far!
Hi everyone! I was out running around today, and am just now stopping in between errands. Welcome back, Nancy - and it was an honor indeed to be nominated, even if the judges had brain farts and gave it to someone else. Like you said, I'm sure they deserved it. Glad you had a good weekend!
Nice picture, andif!!
I checked out your page this weekend, ghost, but didn't see the blog-like place. Will go look again.
No worries about slowing down the posts, Nancy - we'll all still show up and chat, knowing you're out there somewhere! I know what you mean - I need to put more energy into my writing and less into my blog-commenting...if I could just find some willpower...:-)
Hey, Beth, good to see you. Maybe we will inspire each other to put the energy into our writing. We could have an agreement to work for a couple of hours and then check in here. There are all sorts of ways to parallel write!
So Nancy, what's the page count?
Not that I want to put you on the spot or anything. ;)
Dear Andi,
Not Enough.
Love,
Nancy
Ah, that's the phrase I was trying to come up with: "put more energy into [my/our] writing." I finally got past whatever it was that was keeping me from making progress on anything, and at least got a few hundred words in yesterday evening. Best of all, I was pleased with how it came out, even if it wasn't the story I *wanted* to work on. And I know what's next.
One thing that I think may have helped: a change of venue. I carted the laptop & a chair outside, and spent some time outside until the chill chased me back in. Tonight I'll try it with long sleeves & pants.
Great idea, Nancy! Parallel writing across a distance works for me - we can keep each other on track. And reward ourselves by sneaking back here at the appointed hour.
Good idea re changing locale, FAR. If I could see my laptop screen outside, I'd never come in. Glad it's working for you! Long sleeves - wow. I just need them for the noseeums.
I changed my inciting incident yesterday, which meant I lost a bunch of scenes (and I had to delete the doctor, Dr. Chambers - I already apologized to Kimberly), so I'm heading back to try and catch up.
I'll check in now and then...evening, everyone!
Hey there,
I have missed everyone. It was a super hectic weekend for me, and I'm really glad to be back to the writing life.
Nancy, congratulations on your nomination. That's wonderful!
I love the idea of parallel writing! I'll be thinking of you guys when I'm working on my novel tomorrow.
Beth, no problem deleting me. You've got to do what's best for the book!
Beth, I went outside in early evening, when the house was between the sun & my screen. That should do the job! Or heck, it's warm there… let it get dark.
If you're handy with cardboard, you could make a sun shade & velcro it to the outside of your screen....
Seriously, we could set a day/night/timne whatever now and then for any of us who want to parallel write. Maybe I'll put up a poll. :)
Hi, Kimberly. I finally got your blog, Conda's, and Rick's up on my blogroll, and Ghost's website, too. Who have I forgotten?
Hi Everyone. Down with a cold at the moment and my head is full of cotton. Perfect time for the copyedits on CodeSpell to arrive, right? Sigh.
Ghostfolk, about the only useful thing I've learned about blogging so far is that my natural length is way too long for a blog post, so I've been teaching myself to break things down into multiple posts. That seems to make it both more readable and to help with the gotta have new content every day problem.
I'm up for it, Nancy!
Sorry you're sick, Kelly. Probably pushing too hard the last few days with the launch. Unless it was too much champagne at Nancy's party. Hope you're feeling better soon.
And I need to learn the "only post a little" lesson...
Hi, Kelly, poor baby. Be well. Drink more honey with your tea?
And Kimberly, I forgot to say thanks!
I'm glad to see that you haven't shut down the blog, Nancy. It has become quite the fashionable meeting place. Good thing there's no cover charge or 2 drink minimum. ;-)
lol, boran2! And the bouncer is a cupcake.
Kelly: "the only useful thing I've learned about blogging so far is that my natural length is way too long for a blog post, so I've been teaching myself to break things down into multiple posts."
I think I need to nail at least one of my hands to the wall when I blog. My first posting to my own blog looked like 82 pages when I got it up.
Since then, I cut it way back. I don't really know what to do with a blog. I am a born Chatty Cathy.
Katiebird, Beth, and Nancy, thanks for visiting the site(s). If I do anything to embarrass myself, please let me know. Here we call it, "showing your ass."
Oh, and that's something yo don't want to be doing. :-)
Nancy, your info gave me a title for somebody else's book: A County For Killing.
