Solving the first mystery

Hello and welcome.

My readers and other real-life friends know me as Nancy Pickard.

(The first mystery I want to solve is how to pronounce my name. It's PickARD, just like the Captain on Star Trek, only spelled different.)

My on-line pals from other blogs know me as kansas, which is my home state.

Call me Nancy, call me kansas, just don't actually call me, because I hate the telephone. I love email and the internet, though, so I hope you'll come hang out with me whenever you feel like it.

Talk about anything you want to, whether it's about my books, or somebody else's books, or politics, or your life. I'm interested, and I'm here. Just remember that to a writer, everything is material! :)

T.J.!

To anybody who's reading this, you might like to know that t.j. is the incredibly gifted suspense writer of many great novels. She's also one of my very best friends.

Which IS the first mystery, lol? UFO's? ESP? God? Why some of our best writers can't get published? Why I can't seem to get my next chapter written?

Here's a mystery: why, in my profile, does blogger show my age as 1961? Okay, sometimes I feel that old, but not usually.

kansas!!!

You've got a blog!!!

woo hoo!!!

:D

olivia said...

And hello T.J. ... Nice to meet you!

katiebird said...

Hmmm. Maybe it's the year you were born?

Hi T.J.! -- Hi Olivia!

Nancy P said...

Olivia and Catherine!! This is all your fault, you guys, because your own blogs have been so much fun for so many of us. And please note the upper right-hand corner of this blog now. :)

1961, the year I was born?

hahahah

Hiya katieb!!

olivia said...

LOL! We're on the blogroll ... :) Thank you, and will add you to mine as well ... :)

I left a comment about links ... let me know if it helps or confuses.

Nancy P said...

Thanks, dear O.

I'm hoping this place will mix and match a whole lot of people I love, some of whom I have never even met, but whom I feel as if I know from the quality of their work (hint: photos!) and the wisdom of their words. And I'm hoping we'll all meet a whole lot of other great people, too, like the readers of my books. Of whom I am VERY fond. :)

Hi Olivia, nice to meet you, too, and hi to katiebird! Hmm. UFOs? Check out whitley streiber's site for the newest updates on "the drones."
Fake? Real? Who knows?

Nancy P said...

I'll see if I can make a link here to Streiber's site:

Hi Nancy/kansas, t.j. Olivia and KB. I think I got everyone.

kansas it so good to see you've gotten a blog. I can see I'll have another daily stop now. :)

I've never done this before--yikes! Nancy is drawing me into the world of blogs--and nice people and interesting ideas...and 1961(???). Thank you, Nancy. (and hi, T.J.!) What a nice place to be.

And a lovely diversion from the laundry and writing and cleaning the dogs' muddy prints off my rug after lots of days of rain. And if I see this printed on the page, I will have solved MY first mystery--participating in Nancy's blog.

family man! Thank you for dropping by! Your Meez is so funny. And if anybody wants to know what a Meez is, it's his "photo." If you'd like to make your own "avatar," go to:

Sally! I am so happy you found your way here, and honored to be your first-ever blog post. There are people here who can probably hardly believe that, lol.

Speaking of best friends and wonderful writers. . .wait until y'all get to read Sally's new mystery series. I won't tell you who she is unless she tells me I can, and then I'll give you the whole scoop.

Boy, talk about work avoidance...!

Hi Trish! Haven't seen you since the night I handed you your Edgar. Good to "hear" your voice here. And oh, Sally, she's evil. Don't let her pull you into her vortex.

Margaret

Nancy P said...

lol, Margaret! Hey, if I can't get any writing done today, neither will you.

Evil cackle.

Is it okay if I tell who you are?

Trish and Rob MacGregor said...

Margaret!! Good to hear your voice here, too! So we'll all post here on Nancy's blog. I'll bring the coffee!

Trish and Rob MacGregor said...

Sally - you're such a terrific cook, you bring food...And none of us will get any writing done!

Nancy P said...

I'll try to get Sue Dunlap to come and bring Peet's Coffee.

Congrats on breaking the google-blog barrier Kansas! See, now wasn't that easy after all the intimidation? (At least that was my initial experience last year, lol.) Of course I did have two world-class "prodders" egging me on to create the blog, so you can blame it all on Olivia and FM, hehe.

Howdy everyone! Nice to see such an illustrious and mysterious gathering of literary lights in one place!

Hope you're having a whiz-bang 4th down there Kansas (and KB!). Back to the grind tomorrow for me, alas. But there are always flowers to shoot, so that helps. :-)

Nancy P said...

Hey, IVG! So nice of you to drop by. I've just added you and FM to my blog list. See what you think of how I've described yours. :)

Family Man said...

Hey Nancy I just saw you added me to you blog list. Thank you. You're already on my bloglist.

I can see this is going to be the happening place to be. ;)

Nancy P said...

Thanks, family man. I think I've probably lost my mind, don't you? A "happenin' place to be" would mean that I'd be having waaaay too much fun to do that other kind of writing. The kind that pays the bills. :)

Nancy P said...

Margaret gives me permission to out her, so may I take this opportunity to welcome Edgar Winner and mystery writer extraordinaire, Margaret Maron, from the Great State of North Carolina. She writes the Judge Deborah Knott series which is even better than North Carolina barbeque. And I loooove that pulled pork.

Family Man said...

That's where the creative slacking comes in. The only bad thing about it is, you only have yourself to look over your shoulder to make sure the work is getting done.

Ah the joys of retirement. :)

Gads this is fun. I have all these new and old friends right here in my computer. It makes it so much less forboding than it sometimes is when the page is all blank and I need to fill it with words.
TJ, what should I make? Scallops and linguini maybe? And Sue's Peet's coffee. What fun.

And Margaret called me evil! I have never ever been called that and I am so thrilled! Thank you, thank you. It's starting to thunder and rain here in Kansas...favorite weather for sitting on the porch and writing...blog comments.

Olivia's photos are beautiful! What a wonderful treat.

With a roomful of experts here, I've GOT to ask:

What would you advise me to read. I've been deep in a reading-emergency for weeks. And I'm desperate.

Nancy P said...

Any of our books, of course! ;)

katiebird, have you ever read Charlaine Harris? I just recently read one book in her new series that stars a woman who can detect dead bodies through a special sense she obtained after being struck by lightning. I liked it a lot, and I have a feeling you might, too.

The one I read was Grave Site.

I also just read the first novel by Stephen King's son, "Joe Hill." I loved it, but I don't know if you like that much so-called horror.

katiebird said...

I OWN the most recent one -- Grave Surprise. And I liked it a lot. I've read all her Southern Vampire novels too. AND her Aurora Teagarden Books. Also, I like her website. It's got a lot going on.

I've got Stephen King's, Lisey's Story sitting on the bed. But, I'm afraid. I love Stephen King, but I'm always afraid to start one of his books.

Once I get started I like that so-called horror. I just have a hard time getting started.

Are there any other books with a character like The Virgin's Abbey? (how's that for a ridiculous question to ask an author?

-kb

Nancy P said...

Well, hey, do I know your tastes, or what??

It may take a reader to answer the question about finding an "Abby." Hmm, I'm thinking.

olivia said...

Thanks for the kind words on the photos T.J. and sally!
