Dive in

I have to disappear today, so you guys are on your own with the espresso machine and the tea cozies. Just put your dirty cups in the sink, and I'll wash them later. I heard a rumor that Farfetched might bring Cinnamon rolls. Enjoy!

Morning all (belated morning to Nancy, who, I assume, will read this much later).

Today's Monday picture post documents an arrival to mark the anticipation of Beth's return.

from the kitchen Cinnamon rolls will be ready shortly, Andi!

Good thing I got in here early, huh? Nice chronicle of the sunrise, BTW.

Ahhhhh, espresso. Just the thing for Monday morning.

Why is it still dark? And why is there snow on the ground? Isn't it May yet? Well, at least there's rolls, coffee and witty company. :)

Cinnamon rolls at sunrise. Wow. Now that's a Mondy Morning, Andif, Far.

"You've got to boil down 130,000 words to a screenplay containing 20,000 words," the author said in the "Atonement" production notes."

Boil down? So, Maryb, it is witchcraft. I knew it!

I suppose screenplays from original works are what sticks to the pan...

What Jen said.

coffee, please. The rolls can wait.

GF, I have a hard-learned rule about movies from novels -- don't go see them if you liked the book.

Coffee's ready, kb.

I think it was comedian Kathleen Madigan who said something about taking her nieces & nephews to see a Harry Potter flick, and when the kids complained about how the movie wasn't true to the book, she replied, "That's what you get for readin' -- I, on the other hand, loved the movie!" lol

I snuck into the kitchen and prepared maple-cured bacon, toast with homemade bread, and scrambled eggs with spring onion, mushrooms, cabbage, snow peas, and garlic.

I washed it down with gatorade for a change of pace from coffee.

I should be looking for work (Red Hat interview is delayed because of the intervee's flu), but I think I'll chop wood instead.

Everyone enjoy the day. Make hay!

Wow, you guys are EARLY risers!

Top o'the morning to all.

Thanks for the cinnamon rolls, Far!

Andi - Those pictures are beautiful. And they are clearly taken at a time of day when I like to be in bed. So I'm happy to experience that moment through the magic of digital and not in person.

ghost - I was thinking about that process of deconstructing a novel and then reconstructing it as a film. In a way it's what Boran2 does - he takes a photograph, deconstructs it down to it's bones and then rebuilds it. It's the same view but entirely different as a painting than a photograph.

Jen - turn on the lights. It won't be dark.

FAR, kb, Rick, Marie - you ate ALL the cinnamon rolls?

If I missed anyone (is little Olivia hiding?) - sorry and hi!

Yay, everyone's coming in!

I'm with the rest of you — I don't think I've ever seen a movie that was as good as the book it came from. I can understand the necessity of distilling… novels take sidetracks that can add to the depth of the story, but movies are visual and this have to be superficial.

Rick, best o' luck with that Red Hat interview when it comes off. I wouldn't mind working at a Linux company, even if I am a Mac person. I spend half of my work-writing at the Unix level anyway.

Maryb — I always hide one or two rolls for the latecomers. Enjoy!

Coffee! Yay--although I usually prefer tea today is definitely a Monday. Hi all. Back to work for me.

I'm a little late to brunch, but it all looks fantastic. I love cinnamon rolls! :)

Ooh andi, you know how I love sunrises and sunsets! Thanks for welcoming me home!

Just letting all know that I'm back. Haven't had a chance to read anything from the last 5 days, so after dinner I'll get caught up.

Missed everyone! Will post later tonight, so you can see what I was up to.

And while I had cinnamon rolls this weekend, I KNOW they weren't as good as Far's...

AndiF said...

Hey, hey, Beth -- welcome back. Looking forward to reading all about you trip.

Is the pahty over? If not, I'll have some of that coffee and a cinamon roll. I could use it to warm up from our overnight snowstorm. Pretty it was, but not the driving.

Nancy P said...

The party's never over until you show up, b2. Uh. Wait, wait! I didn't mean it that way, lol.

Here, forget the coffee. Have a hot toddy for your boddy.

Larry Kollar said...

passes Boran & Beth each a homebrew

Hey ho! Boran's here to assess the damage, and Beth's back! All tanned in all the right places, I'd guess?

Beer? check Noisemakers? check Aw-right, let's PARTY!

katiebird said...

:( I forgot to check the box!

Well, I'm finally back. I don't suppose there are any rolls left?

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, tanned in all of the right places. And a few wrong ones! Don't ask about how sore my calves are - no one told me to kick with my THIGH muscles.

(limping into the kitchen to get kb the roll she stashed for her)

Larry Kollar said...

KB, you know I always keep a few tucked away...

Nancy P said...

Par-tay! Pass me one of them home-brews, far.

I'm serving champagne tomorrow, btw, and I can't wait to tell you why. But I will wait. :)

Anonymous said...

Okay, that's twice you've hinted at something, Nancy. You'd better spill those beans soon! I'll have a bottle here chilled and ready...

I checked in from the ship to see if I showed up on the map, but I'm not sure where it would have said I was. So if there was a dot in a strange place, that was me!

Nancy P said...

I'm such a tease. :)

Darn it, Beth, I forgot to look at the map for a few days. Yesterday, I did see a dot where Hawaii might be, so I think maybe Kelly was able to check in.

Anonymous said...

I notice that, Nancy, and didn't think it was me. I forgot Kelly was still gone. I don't even know if I showed up - but I tried!

katiebird said...

OO Champaign for breakfast? Before work? Wow, that'll be a fun day.

I can't wait!

Nancy P said...

Beth, was the scenery pretty? And did you get to play with nice people?

Anonymous said...

I did! And I was! I'm working on my posts right now. Adding lots of pictures (sorry for the dial-up folks). Beautiful water and islands. Great friends. And I was on my ship again. (wide grin)

But I missed y'all!

I won't go to bed til I'm done!

Nancy P said...

This place isn't the same without you, so we missed you, too. But I'm so glad you had such a great time. What an amazing experience that year must have been.

I'm off to the shower and bed.
I'm looking forward to reading about your trip and to. . .champagne.

G'night, all!

{{{Nancy}}}

Thanks for making me feel loved! I missed you all, and keeping track of the conversation as it wanders through the day.

I'll look forward to champagne tomorrow, too! Gonzaga is playing at midnight (yawn), and they're my team, so I'll be up for a while anyway.

Night!
