It's 15 degrees outside -- that fire looks good!

Sweet dreams Nancy! See you in the morning-ish....

Buffy! And here's how we know the hellmouth is wide open -- with all the dreck on tv and a gazillion cable channels, none of them are doing re-runs.

Morning all.

Morning, andi. Not a Buffy fan, sorry - don't watch regular TV. So I'll lurk today and enjoy y'all enjoying it.

Although that fire DOES look inviting!

AndiF said...

Trust me Beth, there was nothing "regular tv" about about Buffy.

But here's something you can go look at instead: Thursday Dog and Critter Blogging* at BT.

* keres, whose does these diaries, lives in Tasmania. You can see more of her diaries here.

For those of you that get BBC America - make sure to watch the premiere ep of Torchwood Series 2 next week. A stellar performance by James Marsters (a huge fan shout out in some of the one-liners...plus, the accent's back).

Off to work in a few...

Thanks for the links, andi. If there's not a ball involved, I don't watch it. Except for movies. Sad, but true. But those critters are cute!! And I see pack members in there, too!

Ahhhh, although I'm glad to be here now, I am so glad I wasn't here at 3 in the morning. Sleep, wonderful sleep.

Andi, those photos!! I'd never even heard of a "pademellon" (not sure of spelling, but too lazy to check right now) and isn't it just about the most adorable creature ever?

Hey, maybe "hellmouth" explains the primary season.

Nancy P said...

Hi, Beth. Do you still feel as if you're on a boat?

Andi's right, of course, that there was nothing regular about Buffy. Damn, I wish they'd had a football episode so we could lure you into it. :)

Nancy P said...

Maria,of course I thought of you when I posted that clip. ;p! I am bereft because I can't get Torchwood, because our cable subscription doesn't include BBCAmerica. But I'll ask a friend to tape it for me.

We had a fire last night, too. I was lured into the living room by the extra warmth.

I'm with Beth… not much for TV ever since The X Files jumped the shark. I see what the girlies are watching & pretty much know I'm still not interested. I have the Firefly series on DVD, but haven't gone all the way through them. I'm seriously thinking about ripping them and dropping them on my iPod or smellphone; I usually end up having a half hour to kill & no TV nearby.

At the office, oatmeal is about ready to eat, work stuff wants to be done... will be back later. Coffee cake's in the kitchen, just leave a piece for Boran and anyone else who comes in late, OK?

AndiF said...

But, but Beth ... if you'll only watch something with a ball, that means you've never watched curling! tears well up at the tragedy of it all.

AndiF said...

Oh and second Maria on Torchwood -- it's intelligent, challenging, imaginative, and very witty.

Morning Nancy and all!

I did some serious oversleeping this morning. I feel like I'm late, but I have nothing to do, so how can that be. :)

I never was a big Buffy fan and there's just a few shows I watch now. I think my biggest problem with TV now is the seasons are so short. By the time you really get interested in a show, then they're gone until next year.

Andi I was flipping through the channels the other day and I saw them covering curling. I'm still waiting for the local college to have a curling team, but they keep saying something about it never freezes down here. Go figure. :)

oooh Buffy! One of the best written TV shows evah! Joss Whedon has a new one in the pipeline if the writers' strike ever ends. Starring Eliza Dushku (Faith).

Since this is a TV thread - I've worked my way through Season 1 and 2 of Bones (yes, Angel fans). And now I'm looking for another DVD series for a show I've never seen. I don't have cable so I know there have been good ones. Any ideas?

I can make an exception for curling, andi! I watch it during the Olympics, and really enjoy it - not much coverage in FL or Idaho! And I like hockey, too, and that's not a ball...I'll work on revising my rules.

If Buffy ever decides to play football, I'm there, Nancy! :-)

Okay, I must confess, I DID watch the first season of Dexter on DVD because we discussed the book at a conference, and it was recommended by a good friend. And I really liked it.

(and there was no ball...)

Morning, all, an unknown green for tea this morning. Quite nice, actually but not replicable. I got Far's homecoming present, funny, and quite sweet in it's own way. Maybe he'll post it at his blog at some point.

Maryb, if you haven't seen Six Feet Under, I highly recommend it. Weird, wonderful, and some of the best television I have ever seen.

Anonymous said...

Back when I didn't have control of the remote, my ex used to watch Six Feet Under. And okay, I admit, if I was in the same room, I'd watch over his shoulder. And it indeed was good. The star of Dexter was also in SFU, Michael C. Hall.

Next thing you know, you guys are going to have me admitting that I watch Judge Judy, too! (sorry Rick)

Nancy P said...

maryb, have you seen Dead Like Me? It was only on for two seasons, but I loved it. I'll warn you that I wasn't crazy about the very first show--it takes too long to get going. But the series quickly grew on me.

Nancy P said...

G'morning also to Jen, Family Man, Farfetched, and Kelly.

Maryb, a couple of other shows that got me addicted through the magic of watching them one after another on DVD. . .Battlestar Gallactica and The Shield.

Nancy P said...

Beth, you are hilarious about television! Gradually we are pulling the truth out of you. :p

Nancy P said...

Maryb, that's great news about the possibility of a new Whedon show. Did you watch that show a year or so back that starred "Faith?" I liked it okay, but just okay. She was kind of inexpressive in it, I thought, compared to how kick-ass nasty she was in Buffy. Maybe Whedon can pull it out of her again.

As much as I loved Angel, I haven't been able to get into Bones. Darn it.

AndiF said...

Mary, have you seen Weeds? And I agree with Jen about Six Feet Under, though I think the last two seasons were a lot weaker.

Beth, if you're going to open yourself to sports without a ball, consider adding diving and speed skating.

Maria Lima said...

TeeVee - my never ending obsession.

I'd totally recommend Battlestar Galactica (the new series); The Wire; Dead Like Me; Supernatural; Torchwood; Doctor Who (the new series); Firefly; Wonderfalls (only on DVD; partial season done).

All of the above have seasons available on DVD. (for which I am grateful!)

I'm writing all these down. I'll check out the library and see what they have. This will keep me busy for months, maybe years, since I spend such little time watching TV. But I've been trying to combine watching and walking on the treadmill.

I've never seen Sex and the City and I saw that a movie is coming out. I'm thinking I should put that on my list too. And I'd kind of like to pick a series that's complete (since I don't have cable and won't be able to watch current episodes if I get hooked.)

Nancy I saw that show the Eliza was on - just a couple of times. I thought she was good - very different than Faith. But I can't even remember its name.

To tell you the truth, I should check out Angel because I never saw all of the episodes. I only saw it sporadically.

I was married to two television addicts - they spent more time watching the box than talking to me - hence their being EX-husbands (well, that and other reasons). But there have been a few shows that I liked - not that I'd turn them on deliberately but, like Dexter, will rent from Netflix.

I actually went to the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, andi, and saw Eric and Beth Heiden compete. His thighs were the size of small children! I'll watch many sports on TV, but not golf - bowling - car racing - darts - poker... :-)

True confessions, here! (shamefaced grin)

I have to second the new Doctor Who. Laura and I don't watch television, but a friend got the first two season on DVD and we borrowed them and fell in love with the show. So much so that we got our own copies. The first three season are fantastic with the exception of the Daleks in Manhattan double which is some of the worst SF TV I've ever watched.

Nancy,

I loved Buffy, and the fire looks lovely.

I am between out-of-town trips. Just drove home from Dallas where I spent about 18 hours in lectures. Tomorrow I'm off first thing in the morning to Florida. What I'd most like to do is nap. LOL

Have a good weekend!

Wave toward Englewood as you pass me, Kimber! Travel safely. No napping behind the wheel.

Even with coffee in hand, I can't possibly hit much more than the highlights here this afternoon…

Hey Kelly, glad you liked it even if it was an obvious branch-off. I'm trying to decide whether to put that on my blog or not — I usually try to keep it PG-13 max 'cause my mom reads it. :-P

Sports on TV. Hm. My dad loves his golf. I've been known to sit & watch it with him, primarily because he's watching it. But golf, tennis (which my mom watches religiously) and certain kinds of music have this in common: they're meant to be performed, not watched.

Other TV… I'm not sure what it would take to get me watching TV again. I'd rather read your blogs (or your books) if I'm not working on my own. I barely even listen to commercial radio anymore, either — I find if Album 88 (college radio station in Atlanta with a 100KW signal) doesn't appeal, I'd just as soon listen to a podcast or the thoughts ponging around the inside of my skull.

Have I mentioned lately I love you guys? (No, I haven't been drinking, I'm at work. Must be the fire.)

Beth...Judge Judy's on in 30 minutes. Sydney is getting excited. I'm still fighting with rebuilding the pantry shelves that fell down.

Love the fire, but if you trace it just right, you can get the outline of Jessica Fletcher in it, or maybe the Statue of Liberty...see the arm up high and the spikes around the head?

I'm tired and sore and am tired of using a four-foot long crowbar as a hammer, and the only job offer this week came from some Russian company that thinks I'm well-suited to be launder money for them at a 5% commission. Yeah, right! The turnip truck just turned the corner.

Y'all have a good weekend. Talking about 4-6 inches of snow here and 10 degrees by Monday morning. The natives are freaking. Supermarket rushes were the top news item at noon.

Larry Kollar said...

Hey Rick, good luck with those shelves. If nothing else, you can use 'em for firewood, right? You don't have a hammer handy? I always keep a hammer & a crowbar close by, just in case my in-laws decide they want to tear down the chicken houses — I won't give them time to change their minds!

We're supposed to get a couple more inches of snow tonight, but what we got night before last has pretty much melted. Too bad; it was that kind of snow that makes crunchy squeaky noises when you walk on it, perfect for making snowpeople.

Nancy P said...

far, have we mentioned lately that we love you, too? :)

Kimberly, have you been possessed by the spirit of Beth? To do so much traveling?

Rick, I'm going right back to the front page to examine that fire. Maybe it can also tell fortunes.

Anonymous said...

Ditto, Nancy! I've been trying to be good and get some work done, but when you start sending love out, I'm there!

Big hugs and smooches to everyone!! Even Sydney!

Poor Kimber, if she has been... :-)

Good evening all. I don't need that fire on this fairly warm day but maybe within a day or two you could rekindle it, Nancy. The temperature is supposed to drop precipitously this weekend.

I've never actually seen Buffy. I'll have to check out a DVD.

Nancy P said...

G'd evening, boran2. I'm afraid we're sending you still more frigid weather in a few days. I'll keep a fire going for you.
