Monday. . . It's a new baby week

Speaking of new babys, here's a photo of Charlie, the coyote that an amazing young woman in Wyoming adopted when he was orphaned. It was either take him home with her, or see him drowned in a water tank. She records his exploits at her blog, The Daily Coyote. I know I've mentioned them before, but I just have to keep coming back in case you'd like to check their progress.

Here's a more recent picture of Charlie:

What a handsome fellow. He's finally growing into his ears.

Have you grown into your ears?

What do you absolutely positively HAVE to, dagnabit, get done this week?

I HAVE to finish a story. Please?

Oh, and travel bulletin! I'm going to Lexington, Ky. on Thursday and will be gone until Sunday. But you've all got keys, and you know where the coffee is.

The only thing on my schedule is the Monday Picture Post which doesn't have any ears -- it's just ice because it's January and you've got to got with the world you've got, not the not world you want.

More ice?

More ice.

Morning everybody.

Morning Nancy and Andi.

Nope I never did grow into my ears, and I never could grow enough hair when I was younger to cover them. So now when the wind is blowing, I just ignore them flapping back and forth. :)

hes a smart little bastard

the young coyote turned his head showing his smile panting enthusiastically an anxious tap dance of toenails on the hard floor

the jack rabbit ears god bestowed on him for a cruel joke followed the sound of my grumbling in the wee hours of the cold morning he only heard the sound of breakfast warmth companionship not my complaints of arthritic hands aching knees and a sore back from chopping wood to keep HIM warm

he dips his nose into his food as if to reassure himself that it is edible my breakfast comes later

he talks to me a small whine his nose dives deep into my boot as he shoves it to my bare feet he needs to go out and i need my feet on to take him there

i told you he was smart

he needs me

i need him

He reminds me of a WB cartoon. The narrator was talking to a little mouse with huge ears.

"Hey, little fella. You look troubled. Is everything all right?"

"I dunno, doc. I keep… HEARING things…"

The Cormac quote, as usual, is great stuff.

Andi, I like ice. I like the crunching sound it makes when you step on it. It's certainly more pleasant than the coyotes getting wound up at 12:30 am.

FM, I guess I never had that problem… either growing into my ears *or* growing enough hair to cover them. Growing hair is a lot more slackerly, after all, than going to get it cut.

LOL… I followed the link to the Daily Coyote. Good ol' AdSense says: Get Rid of Coyotes Call 678-xxx-yyyy to Trap, Remove & Control Coyotes in Greater Atlanta."

Nancy - thanks for the coyote update.

Andi - once again, the ice pics are v.cool!

This week, I have loads of stuff at the day job, which no one really wants to hear about. In the writing arena, I need to finish up the next few chapters of Blood Bargain.

Morning, all! In a few, I'm off to pick up the boss for our all-day client meeting in Bethesda. Catch you all after I return.

(waving wildly)

Good Morning everyone! Andi, nice Ice photos -- I particularly like the first one.

Larry Kollar said...

Maria, I get the impression your day job is similar to mine. I'd be happy to talk shop, off-blog. Twitter, IM, email, whatever.

Family Man said...

FAR I have to disagree with you on the growing hair. The problem with long hair is you've got to take care of it. Although I would never shave my head, short hair is so much more slackerly to take care of. Of course I've got a cousin that might disagree.

Cousin Itt.

Maria I hope your all-day client meeting speeds by very fast.

KB I'm waving wildly back. :)

Oh, wow, andi, I really love those two photos. Esp. the first one, but the second one is really interesting. Girl, you oughta have an Ice Photo Exhibit somewhere. Besides here, I mean. Seriously.

Nancy P said...

Family, Man, lol. In a really good wind, can you fly?

O ** O

Nancy P said...

Anon, I love that. You're a smart little bastard, too. :)

Nancy P said...

far, yes, isn't that funny (ha) about the coyote ads?

I like the sound of crunching ice, too--though not the eating kind, that drives me up an icy wall.

Happy Bethesda to you, Maria.

Hey, kb. Happy Monday to you. That rally I mentioned for "my" candidate? It's in downtown KC tomorrow afternoon. I don't think speeches start until close to six, but they're opening the doors about 3:30 and may be expecting a huge crowd. 11,000 showed up in Birmingham and there wasn't room for all of them.

I'm such a political junkie that all I want to do is read news and blogs these days. Must Resist.

Beth gets back today?

I'm back! I'm back! I missed y'all! (A weekend with my NC relatives leaves me with a definite drawl.)

We had a great time, eating too much, doing jigsaw puzzles, and talking ourselves to death. And the Bad Seed wasn't around, so it was relaxing. Her ears were probably burning, though! I'll post pictures and stories at my place later.

I check the Coyote daily, Nancy, after you introduced Charlie and Shreve to us.

Glad to be warm and back home - I miss too much when I'm gone. Hope everyone had a great weekend, and a great week ahead.

Thanks for missing me!

(Ignore me. I forgot to check the comments box. Grrrr.)

!! Hi Beth!

Nancy, I just realized that my big Information-for-people-planning-to-retire meeting is at 5:30 tomorrow night. And I CANNOT miss it.

My Lawrence Sister said she might go. I saw an announcement about it on the news. I'd show up at about noon with a nice thick book if I was going. Otherwise someone as short as me wouldn't see anything except the shoulders of the person standing in front of me.

It sounds fun/interesting/exciting.

Nancy P said...

Beth, I'm so glad you had such a nice time. But we definitely do miss you when you're out of range!

{{{everyone}}}

I didn't want anyone to feel left out! :-)

AndiF said...

Jeez, Nancy, I could barely get in here my head swelled up so big. And anyway, an exhibit would never work cause as soon as it warmed up, the pics would all melt. ;D

(My Aunt Sylvia always told me to learn to accept compliments graciously. I'm working on it.)

AndiF said...

Welcome back, Beth.

And hi to the rest of the cast, in order of appearance -- FM, anon/cormac, Far, Maria (a moment of silence for poor trapped Maria), and wildly waving KB.

Kelly McCullough said...

Hey all, just passing through this morning caused I'm playing catch up on a bunch of stuff.

(waves) hope everyone has a lovely day.

Anonymous said...

You too, Kelly! And thanks, andi. Great pics, as usual. I definitely agree with the exhibit idea. You'd probably take great pics of them melting...

Welcome, anon - thanks for joining in.

I'm so glad I'm back! I feel left out when I'm gone.

Larry Kollar said...

Hi Beth! Sounds like a great time was had, which is the whole point, hey?

Hey KB… is "Lawrence Sister" the one who sent you the oh-so-delightful photo that you forwarded to me? *cackling*

Kelly and everyone else, grab some bowls — the chicken & rice soup is ready. Let it cool off before you start eating though. Hot sauce is on the counter next to the crockpot…

katiebird said...

? Maybe ? What photo?

Larry Kollar said...

KB, the one with the froggies with bulging eyes. YOU know…

boran2 said...

I love those photos, Nancy. Looking at them, I'm trying hard to keep myself from throwing my head back and howling a bit. Well, maybe I'll just howl a bit anyway. It is Monday.

katiebird said...

froggies. bulging eyes. I'm SURE that's supposed to mean something to me. But what does it have to do with my sister?

I've been thinking about it all afternoon.

Nancy P said...

Andi, that was funny, about the pics melting. And I think you're making nice progress in accepting compliments. :D Damn, I just gave you another challenge.

Nancy P said...

Hey, Kelly, far, and boran2. I feel as if I'm not slowing down to talk to anybody very much this week, and it's not going to get better for awhile. But rest assured I'm carrying on long, leisurely interesting conversations with you in my head. :)

Anonymous said...

I never got around to saying "hi" this morning. I feel like boran2. lol!

I was just over at Manny's blog watching a video he has posted. I won't say anything other than ... watch it.

Nancy P said...

Thanks for the tip, mb. Will do.
Have you SEEN the temperatures up in Montana? 19 below. And it's coming our way.

Do you read jackandjill political blog? I've just discovered it recently and I really like it.

brrrrr. Here I was enjoying the nice weather today. Wonder what the weather will be like in a week, on election day.

I've clicked through to Jack&Jill when people have linked. I should put it in my favorites so I don't forget it.

Nancy P said...

Boy was I not expecting the punch line of that video! Very funny.

katiebird said...

I've been lazily lurking through email. And just realized I've hardly said a word.

It's almost 54 degrees out. Hard to believe bad times are coming soon.

It took a complete left turn. I laughed out loud.

Maryb and kb, are you too young to know the singer Pat Boone? He's on tv now advertising somnething and man does he looks silly with dyed hair and rouge on his old face. I am mortified to confess I preferred him to Elvis.

katiebird said...

Nancy, Mister says that most people did. He was safer.

Anonymous said...

I remember Pat Boone. I thought he died. Guess not. I'm glad I'm not seeing it cuz I'd rather remember him as he was.

I was too young to really prefer either of them. But I remember them - probably older than you remember them.

Nancy P said...

"probably older than you remember them."

lol! And, yes, indeed.

Okay, I really am going to bed, but MSNBC is being slightly more entertaining than annoying right now, so it's hard to turn off the tube.

Nancy P said...

Hmm, thinking of Pat. . .maybe he is dead, which would explain the rouge.

katiebird said...

I get a server error everytime I post, but the comments seem to 'take' but It's thrown me off.

Nancy, I'm thinking about your photo for tomorrow. I'm "Thinking About Marbles.

All of the comments went into my spam folder yesterday - I thought folks were being quiet!

I thought Pat Boone was dead, too. Like Burt Reynolds - I can't stand to look at him any more. He was SO handsome, but now the plastic surgery has turned him into a mannequin.
