The dark before the light

One of Andif's finest, in my opinion.

I figured out how to do the photo thing on this Mac.

I love that photo, Andi.

See y'all in the a.m.

(ahhhh)

It's wonderful. I want to be there.

See you in the Morning, Nancy.

Did the repair man come? I think I missed something.

Morning Nancy. Morning Nearly-Retired-Person. ;P

Thank you, Nancy. And of course, it's a good picture -- after all, it was thousands of centuries in the making. :)

Good morning Nancy, KB and good morning again Andi.

I agree that is a wonderful picture. Andi your forest pictures always remind me of a fairy tale forest. I always expect to see elves or the Seven Dwarfs in the background.

KB your party is today isn't it. I hope you have a great time.

Nancy what's the update on you computer? I think I'll have to have mine looked at very soon too.

(waving) Where's my coffee?

Oh, yesterday we were in a coffee shop. Today, we're camping again. Did anyone pack the Coleman Stove?

Did anyone pack the Coleman Stove?

Never leave home without it. :)

katiebird said...

Well, make me my coffee, God Damn it!

katiebird said...

:)

(I'm kidding)

Although I do really need this coffee...

Morning, all! Andi, once again, really cool photo.

KB, still totally jealous of the omg, almost retired thing. ::g::

I'm spending the next 2 days in all-day client meetings...with the same client. Sigh.

One cool thing, speaking of photos, though. Via a Google Alert, I found a Flickr stream of photos from my HS town of Lago Vista, TX - on which I based my own fictional small town of Rio Seco.

Here's the link to the pics:

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!

Happy Retirement Party, Katiebird!

katiebird said...

Hi Maria,

How did you find those photos? I'd love to find that for my hometown.

I'm sorry about your meetings. I've been training people all week (funny they weren't interested back when I still had a brain) and I've got another session in a couple of hours

Showing five people how to produce certain statistics reports. In an hour. Oh, Really?

katiebird said...

Hi Jen, I love the party sounds. I think I'll stay right here and party instead of going to work....

I can't decide if I'll wreck my hair or make it better by taking a shower....

Maria Lima said...

KB - I just put in a Google Alert for "Lago Vista" (with the quotes).

http://www.google.com/alerts

Because the photographer tagged the photos as Lago Vista, I got an email with the link. Then I found the rest of her photos, mostly of the same general area. :)

Hope this helps!

katiebird said...

Maria, I never thought of doing that. But, I just did. I'll let you know if I get anything interesting back. Thanks.

I love it! What am I looking at? Is it a bridge, a tree? I wish I were sitting in the arch :-)

Morning, all! Happy party day, KB - joining Jen in the noisemaker-blowing!

Hope the computer guru fixes you today, Nancy. HP called yesterday and said hey, did you know your computer is under warranty? So it looks like Bill will get a new hard drive out of this - yippee! And he made an offer on a house yesterday, so we're moving from house-hunting to house-packing mode.

Good luck in meetings and trainings - I'll be walking in andi's woods in my mind as I try to figure out why I have a mermaid in my book....

Hugs to all!

Hi, guys, and welcome Mlf! :)

katieb, this is my mom's Mac. My Toshiba is still in the shopiba.

Wow, your last day! Of course, we'll partay! We're also having an official party on Monday, though, just to perk you up on your first weird day of not going to work. And to make all of the rest of us insanely jealous!

Hey all!

Going through the first two Webmage books, on the way to starting the third, so of course that puddle looked like a faerie ring: jump in, come out somewhere else. Wet.

So when's KB's retirement party? It takes a little time to make the cinnamon rolls, so advance warning would help…

Hey Maria, that alerts thing sounds interesting. I just set up a couple of my own. Thanks for mentioning it.

Kelly McCullough said...

Beth, be careful with those mermaids, tricksy they are, and slippery too.

KB, hooray! (blows little party horn till it explodes).

Nancy, good luck with the computer. Sorry it's still not fixed.

FM, Andy, Maria, Jen, halooo!

Mlf, hi, I don't think I've seen you around here before, welcome.

Nancy P said...

kb, would you email me, please? I need to ask you something, and I don't have any of my email addresses, 'cause of this computer thang.

Kelly McCullough said...

Hi Far, (waves) we crossposted there. Gotta watch out for those faerie rings. Not only can you end up anywhere, they're really hard on the digestion.

katiebird said...

(waving from my office desk. And FREAKING out!)

Hi Everyone - I WISH you guys could be at the party (today at 11:30) I'm so nervous I could throw up!

I do have to "work" tomorrow. But, I've got serious doubts about how useful I'll be....

katiebird said...

Nancy, check your email....

AndiF said...

Hi MLF. You're looking at geologic formation called a window, caused by a vertical crack in horizontal layers which then erodes the rock away during freeze and thaw cycles (you really were asking to be told all about the geology, right?). This particular window is on a portion of the Sheltowee Trace in Kentucky's Red River Gorge.

Also, hi to everybody else.

And happy partying, kb.

Nancy P said...

Andi, that was (honestly, no really, I mean it) interesting. That and the photo give me tickly "story" feelings.

Far, can you have the treats ready for Monday morning?

Is Monday a bad day for champagne?

Katiebird! Be the Queen, be the Empress, be the Lady of the Library Manor today! Slurp up the attention, cry, laugh, giggle, sob, shake, shiver, hug, and accept every compliment they give you, because YOU DESERVE ALL OF IT!!!

Conda Douglas said...

Eerie, haunting, gorgeous.

Larry Kollar said...

Yeah, Nancy, I felt that same tickle. But dangit, I'm running a fork around my plate already to keep stuff from falling off! :-)

Kelly, cross-posting is always fun, isn't it? Indigestion isn't a problem… that goes away. Now having your bod and your mind arrive at two different places — that's a problem!

News flash! Carnacki's going to start serializing a new story on Friday! W00T!

Larry Kollar said...

Oh, KB, freaking out is allowed. What are they going to do, fire you?

My dad told his employer a year in advance that he was going to retire and such-and-such a date. They didn't do anything about it until the last minute, but he stuck to his guns & they finally scrambled around & got replacements hired and deployed in the nick of time.

They'll keep you coming in as long as they can get away with it. If you're gonna retire, you gotta make it happen.

katiebird said...

My Office/Cubicle mate called me over to his office just now so he could give me his present just between the two of us.

I told him I was really dreading this. That it was like Dorothy and the Scarecrow and I was going to miss him most of all. And we both started crying (I'm tearing up typing this)

Then he gave me the gift -- "Nixonland" by Rick Perlstein.

(sniff)

It's perfect.

AndiF said...

Nancy, your comment made me articulate something that's been roaming in my head for quite awhile -- the saying really ought to be "every picture ought to make you want to tell a story about it".

katiebird said...

Andi, I love your photo and I'm sure that the story is interesting. I'm going to reread it when I get my brain back.

But, I wanted to give you a hug. Because I love looking at it and thinking of you seeing it and taking the photo and sharing it with us.

Even though I can't think right now.

xxoo

Far said, "What are they going to do, fire you?"

You guys are funny!

andif said, "the saying really ought to be "every picture ought to make you want to tell a story about it"

You guys are smart and interesting.

katiebird. . .awww.

AndiF said...

Aww, shucks, kb -- that was very charming and sweet of you to say.

As for getting your brain back -- hey you're retired, you can let it go on extended walkabout without worries. ;)

Anonymous said...

Congrats on your party, kb.
Thanks for the photo, Nancy and Andi. It's beautiful.

Nancy P said...

Hi, Anon.

So, Kb, how was your day? :)

katiebird said...

It was very, very nice. AND I loaded all my stuff in the car AND actually brought it into the house from the car! (that's nearly a miracle of accomplishment for me)

One day -- Yikes!

Almost everyone asked me how I decided to retire. Like it was a totally new option....

Andi? Are you thinking about retiring soon?

boran2 said...

Yes, that's a really nice photo, Nancy and Andi. Is that your own woods, Andi?

boran2 said...

Congratulations, KB!

AndiF said...

kb, I'm always thinking about retiring ... thinking about it is easy; it's the doing of it that's the problem. If I'm lucky, maybe when I'm 62 (4 years).

B2, nope that's not my woods. That's the Red River Gorge area in Kentucky.

katiebird said...

Andi, I totally appreciate the difference between the thinking and the doing. Especially after this week.

And considering how shocked - not quite negatively, but certainly extremely amazed - people are by my doing it. I've been keeping my fat mouth shut about my age.

I don't want to make people crazy....

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it does seem to freak people out if you retire before 72, or 65... I did it at 45, so try really hard NOT to even use the "R" word. I just stopped working a "real" job (ie, one that pays), and switched to one that doesn't - well, so far. :-)

Enjoy every second of it, kb - soon you'll be wondering how you ever found time to squeeze in work between all of the other things you're doing!

Happy almost-Friday, all!

Nancy P said...

I hope it was a totally satisfying day, kb. Did you get photos?

Andi? Got a spare photo lying around? I can't get to my library of Andi photos, and I'd love to post one tomorrow.

Am I the only one watching So You Think You Can Dance?

Nancy P said...

Hi, boran2. G'night, boran2. :)

andi, you've probably already retired for the night. I'll catch you in the a.m.

Sweet dreams, everybody.
