Interview With the Author

Q. Hey, NP, welcome back!
A. Thank you, NP.

Q. So, you finished your book?
A. No.

Q. Want to say more about that?
A. No.

Q. Aw, come on, give us a progress report?
A. Made progress. Progress made.

Q. When do you think you’ll be finished with it?
A. How long was the Pleistocene Age?

Q. I thought you had to have it in around the first of June.
A. Shut up.

Q. You know, some writers--one thinks of Kelly, for instance, or, well, just about anybody here except you--actually meet deadlines and sometimes even write more than one book a year.
A. I’m very happy for them.

Q. Really?
A. What? You can’t understand me through gritted teeth?

Q. So how’s the rest of your life?
A. My car engine exploded and caught fire.

Q. Whoa. Really? When?
A. Couple of weeks ago.

Q. So you’ve seen fire. Have you seen rain?
A. Well, not like Iowa. Poor Iowa.

Q. There, see? Things could be worse.
A. Shut up.

Q. I’m sure everybody will love having you back, what with this delightful mood you’re in.
A. I am going to practice not taking it out on other people.

Q. A grateful blog appreciates that.
A. That wasn’t a question.

Q. I didn’t want to get my head bitten off.
A. You’re smarter than you look.

Q. Did anything good happen in your absence?
A. My homeboy David Cook won American Idol, and my favorite KU player of all time, Paul Pierce, is going to lead the Celtics to the NBA championship tonight. Woot.

Q. Anything else?
A. Got to meet Andif and Jim, and meet up again with Kimberly and Beth. That was big time nice. Had coffee a couple of times with Katiebird, and that's always nice.

Q. See? Life is not all slow books and bombed cars.
A. Shut up.

Q. Can we open the Comments now?
A. Yes.

Q. Anything you want to say to your blog friends?
A. Hey, guys. I missed you. T’sup?

It's already Sunday on the East Coast, and that's good enough for me.

See you in the midwestern morning.

Whoooopeeeee!

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

You're back!

And of course -- just to be self-centered as usual -- I'm thrilled to once again be The Official Photographer to the Famous Writer. [LINK]

We're off to hike in the Red River Gorge later today and internet access is an unknown so I won't be around much this week so a big "HI" to everybody I've missed all these months.

(sniff) I'm so h.h.h.happy!

{{{Nancy p}} Wow. This is the best blog post ever.

That David Cook thing? People at work still talk about it.

AND the Jayhawks?? Mister caught a tribute thing on video tape. It's a congratulations for winning the championship. It's the Rock Chalk Jayhawk song. He'd never heard it before that tape and he LOVES it. So every so often he plays it unexpectedly.

And Andi! (who's probably gone off hiking and photographing) I'll be here as often as I can so maybe we'll see each other soon. xxoo

(WAVING wildly) Don't assume that you missed your hug just 'cause you aren't here yet. I'll be here all day and I'll get you - oh, yes. I'll get you too....

NANCY!! I'm so glad to see you! I'm so glad you're back with us where you belong.

HEY! What happened to Andi! Hug?

{{{Andi}}}

Andif! (The "f" is for "fotographer.") It's so great that now I can "see" your face and "hear" your voice. But I'm arriving just as you're leaving? Rats! Well, hike happy, and take lots of great new pics. I love the one you gave us today. (And she sent me some more beauties to use as we please while she's gone, thank you very much.)Hi, to Jim. What a nice fella!

Nancy P said...

((((katiebird!))))

Mister only recently heard the Jayhawk chant?! That's kind of amazing that he managed to avoid it for so long. I've read that it literally convinces young bball recruits to sign with KU. They come feeling skeptical of being stuck in a small town in Kansas, then they go to a game, hear the chant, and reach for a pen to sign up.

Welcome back! Aren't Andi and Jim as good in real life as they are on line?

I'm waiting for all the Iowa water to make it's way down the Mississippi. sigh. Are we going to get flooded from the Missouri too? Nobody's said much about that. What's the news at your end?

Bye Andi - have a great vacation. Bring home lots of pictures.

Hi again kb. I think this was why I was thinking about you.

Nancy P said...

Hey, Maryb. I'm been thinking about you and St. Louis and the M I S S I S S I P P I. I don't envy you being downstream. Wait. I'm down a different stream, aren't I, and it's a-risin', too.

Yep, andif and Jim are sweetie pies in person (don't tell andif!), just as they are on line. They actually even brought "sweets" with them from a bakery. It will no doubt shock you to learn that we talked politics and books.

Anonymous said...

No surprise at all that you talked politics and books. But a bit of a surprise that Andi set foot in a bakery ... that must have been Jim. :)

Well, if you can keep your Missouri water from reaching the Mississippi at the same time as the Iowa Mississippi water gets here --- we'd be much appreciative. Maybe a reverse rain dance?

Have you read Louise Erdrich's new novel yet?

Welcome back to the internets, Nancy! The Very Long Wait was worthwhile if only because I got to watch you use the word "homeboy" in your return post. I believe the kids are actually saying "homeslice" nowadays, but as I am diving headlong into geezerhood I no longer receive the text msg updates. ;)

In all seriousness, my very best wishes with writerly production; hope things pick up soonest.

Nancy P said...

Hey, Jen! "Homeslice," eh? Lol. Like homemade bread? It never pays for a geezer to attempt slang.

It's really good to "see" you.

Nancy P said...

maryb, commencing unrain dance now. I think it involves spinning counterclockwise to the earth's rotation.

Happy Dad's Day to the appropriate targets!

A couple of favorite memories of my dad. . .

Just the two of us going to Kansas City Blues baseball games at the old stadium downtown. Loved that. And when I was younger, going for walks with him and he'd patiently wait while I ran up and down every set of stairs along the way.

Maria Lima said...

Nancy!!!! Many hugs and loads of welcome back!!!!

Hello, all - I just got back from a mini-conference (local) and am pooped.

Going to nap.

Kimberly Frost said...

Good Morning, Nancy!

I still can't believe about your car catching fire. I'm so glad that you weren't hurt.

...maybe you can use that experience in a book.

Kimberly Frost said...

Good morning, Andi -

That's an especially beautiful photograph this morning. I hope you and Jim have a wonderful hike and can't wait to see the pictures.

Kimberly Frost said...

Morning, Katiebird, Mary B, Jen, & Maria,

It's so great to see everyone and to have Nancy back. I have missed this place.

Nancy P said...

Shhh, maria lima is sleeping.

::whispers:: hi, Maria!

Nancy P said...

Hey, Kimber. It happened on my way home from the airport. The funny thing is that when I got to WRW I told a lot of people that I'd had a dream the night before of my car burning up. Voila! I'm fine. Car is salvage.

...maybe you can use that experience in a book.

The main reason to be a writer, heh.

Chiming in between chores, writing and errands. And weeding. Sucks that I'm allergic to weeds. (Sniff sniff achoo)

Humongous hugs to everyone - and I love the post, NP. The world is right again - Nancy's Place is open! We have an andi picture (have a wondrous vacation!) - and greetings from the gang - now I can go back outside with a smile on my face. Thanks for coming back, Nancy - and we all DID have a great time at WRW, except for the burning car part....and my missing andi and Jim. Huckleberry hugs to Kimber...I can't stop, I'm just so excited!

Yippee!

Nancy P said...

Kashundeit, Beth! Or however you spell it.

Huckleberry wine actually tastes fine.

We're an all-girl chorus so far. Wonder when the tenors, baritones, and basses will chime in. :)

katiebird said...

Back from mowing lawns and grocery shopping.

It really does feel good that we've got all our neighborhood blogs up and rolling again.

Nancy, (smile)

Anonymous said...

Thanks for coming back!
Missed y'all.

Nancy P said...

Thanks. Missed you, too, Anon. :)

I haven't visited any blogs for so long. I wonder if anybody has moved?

I'm addicted to a song today: "Pain" by Jimmy Eats World. Sounds a bit like my fav band, Muse.

Music is keeping me writing on this book. It has propelled me on, bless its emotional heart. I may write about that soon.

Family Man said...

Welcome home Nancy!

I'm glad to see you back, and I'm a little bit jealous of all the people you got to meet.

Looking forward to tomorrow and see ya.

Nancy P said...

Family Man! I heard rumors that you were back in action, and I am so glad, 'cause that means (I hope) that everybody's feeling better.

See ya 'round the village!

boran2 said...

Congratulations on the grand reopening. I don't see any bunting. Isn't there supposed to be bunting?

boran2 said...

Sorry, I left out the "!".

Nancy P said...

lol, boran2. (!) So nice to see you, and yeah, who's bringing the bunting and the funny hats and those weird nose-maker thingees that you twirl 'round and 'round. Well, maybe not *you,* precisely, since you have, I suspect, a shred of dignity, but somebody.

I'll bet I have missed some beautiful paintngs by the artist known as b2.

Nancy P said...

Anybody watching the bball game? I expected the Lakers to come out strong like that, but I'm glad the Celtics didn't wait so late this time to bring the score closer.
Come on, Pierce!

Anonymous said...

You know I am, Nancy! Thursday's game was torture. I didn't know re the Kansas connection with Pierce - he's been fun to watch, but now I have a better reason to root for him. I think the Celtics feel victory, and are getting their act together early. I HOPE! Never have been a Celtics fan, but have to be this year. Go Celtics! Still have a half to play...

Nancy P said...

Figured you'd be watching, Beth! Lotta game left to go. Come on, Celtics.

Did you just see Denzel? He looked a lot older than he does on the moofie screen. Still handsome, just older.

Oops, lost the ball.
Got it back, got fouled. . .I guess you don't need a play-by-play, do you? lol! Yes! In. Yes! In.

Could you believe Tiger Woods today? Wow.

Anonymous said...

I just heard the highlights during the game. The man is amazing. I'm taping the rest of the game so Bill and I can watch it when he gets home in 1/2 hour, so don't tell me who wins!! Or you can celebrate, and I just won't read it. :-)

I blogged instead...lots of pictures from our day on the lake yesterday...

I missed Denzel, doggone it. Will see him later. I really need to get the wireless router up and running so I can watch tv and surf at the same time! Enjoy the game, NP! Go Celtics!

Conda Douglas said...

Welcome back, Nancy! I missed your fabulous sense of humor (it is humor, right?). And you will get your w.i.p. done! If your car doesn't explode...

Nancy P said...

lol, Conda! It is humor. Even when I'm wincing.

I hope you're having a happy, productive spring.
