Apres-Turkey

Pigging out is such sweet sorrow.

I can't eat more until tomorrow.

Morning Nancy.

Seeing that I hate to see food go to waste, I see a lot of eating in my future. I've got another whole coconut cake that hasn't been touched yet. I might give a shot at getting rid of that today. :)

Thanks to our tradition of the Christmas hike, I'm stuffed with aches and pains instead of of stuffing. It was a fine Christmas hike, even without snow.

Andi - Beautiful pictures as always. Thanks for sharing them.

Morning, Fam!

Nancy, love the kitty.

Have a great day today in the 'tween time between Xmas & New Year's. Feels like a good day to stay in bed and read. :)

Morning Kimberly!

Not too many stirring this morning. I'd love to stay in bed and read and nap, but I've still got a ton of family here. I'm figuring after the 1st, the whole month of Jan. is going to be taken up in naps.

Hope your holiday has been good.

Oh my, love the cat, Nancy, reminds me of my own stomach-with-legs.

And as I adore cooking and baking, today is leftovers breakfast, lunch, and some family coming over for leftovers dinner--and there's plenty if you want to drop by...

A whole uneaten coconut cake?! I'll be right there, fm. How was the stew?

Andi, you're getting to be quite the expert at photographing light and shadows. Do you enlarge any of your photos, and frame and hang them? I imagine a wall with three of your "light" photos hanging side by side.

Hi, Kimberly. Fluff up those pillows and relax! Got a good book to read today? I just read a little non-fiction book that I loved: How Starbucks Saved My Life. It was written by a man who was a son of privilege--his father was Brendan Gill of New Yorker fame--and who was fired, at the age of 53, from his Master of the Universe career. He lost almost everything and was nearly broke when one day he was sitting in a Starbucks, pretending to be employed, and a young African-American woman turned to him and asked, "Would you like a job here?"
And so he became, at the age of 63 (by then)a Starbucks barista. It's a good and inspiring story about a self-described "pompass ass" who was deeply grateful for the chance to clean toilets and wear a Stabucks' cap and work around people--staff and customers-- who were kind to him.

Conda, "stomach with legs," lol!

I'll be by your house for leftovers right after I steal that cake out from under fm's nose.

Nope, Nancy, I just have loads and loads of images for my wallpaper changer program.

Nothing better for light and shadow than the woods -- the angle of the sun and trees are always working together to make for interesting patterns.

The family loved the stew, and I just took a big bowl over to my sister's house. She told me she would give me the money to buy everything if I would make up a big pot for them. She likes it in those containers to freeze, and then pulls out one whenever they're in the mood for stew.

I've got a coconut and German chocolate cake, pumpkin pie, half of a ham and turkey to finish. That's not counting the stew either. :)

BTW that book How Starbucks Saved My Life sounds like it would be an interesting read.

LOL Nancy! I love that.

Conda -- stomach w/ legs! LOL

FM -- coconut cake! Mmmmmm ... that sounds good. What's in it (besides coconut)?

Andif, beautiful photos, particularly the one with the reflection. The trail reminds me of a nature trail outside Springfield, Missouri.
And the cat is...perfect, Nancy.
Now for some leftovers, with a good lap cat for warming.

Hi Olivia.

Inside a coconut cake is, uh - lets see, coconut and cake. Thus the name. :P

Nope it's the following: Coconut Cake Recipe. Is this another Southern food thing you've never had?

I was trying to post a link to a picture, but dagnabbit I forgot how to.

olivia said...

FM, if the photo is online (like photobucket), then you can link to it like you would a url (like the cake recipe).

Going to look at the recipe now.

Yep, that sounds reallllllllly good.

I don't think I'll ever be hungry again...except til dinnertime tonight. Looks like it's back to lettuce when I get home! But til then, margaritas are calling me. Sounds like you won't need to cook for another week, fam! And I'll look for that book, Nancy - I LOVE Starbucks!! Well, I just love lattes and mochas, and since they serve those there...

Dagnab it! I didn't get to click the comments box. Just ignore me.

Hey folks!

Stomach with legs: love it. And the cat. He looks so… happy!

Andi, a Christmas hike sounds like a great idea. If only it wasn't pouring rain yesterday. Ah well.

I bicycled to the Evil Chicken Houses to do the pickup duty (which requires a tractor). I made up a little senryu (snarky haiku) for my haiku blog, as a voiceover to a less-than-appetizing video. Um… I told Beth, but did I mention to everyone else that I have a haiku blog too?

Family Man, I warn you, it's a bookful of schmaltz, but it's really good schmaltz. Not for the deeply cynical, but I don't think that describes you, so you should enjoy it. :) I adore stories of people who turn their lives around, esp. when they go from up to down to a better form of "up." If that makes any sense.

Nancy P said...

Olivia, honestly, we have GOT to get you south of the border so we can introduce you to Real Food. :p

Nancy P said...

Hi, Kathy! My cat has taken to trying to sit on my lap between me and my laptop (computer). If I can keep his paws off the space bar we get along okay.

Nancy P said...

Hi, Far, did you have any rolls for leftover turkey sandwiches? I love that.

Beth? You'lol love that book. I love Starbucks, too, and it confirmed my understanding that it's a good place to work. Did I tell you I got THREE Starbucks gift certificates for Christmas? lol! I guess I dropped enough hints, eh?

Family Man said...

Nancy I think I would enjoy the book. I'm not completely cynical yet. ;)

I agree with you about Olivia too. She needs to get down to where some real food is. :O

Speaking of, have you ever had Ambrosia. My grandmother used to make it every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Here's a recipe to tell a little about what it is.

Apres-Turkey, I'm ready for the next big celebration this coming Monday evening.

Nancy P said...

FM, I've heard of Ambrosia, but never had it. It sounds kinda like a frozen "salad" my mother used to make with nuts and fruit in it.

Let's see. . . Ambrosia and gin for NYE? Ew?

We'll serve it to Boran2 and Mrs. B2 for NYE next Monday night.
