Do you believe in magic?

Since I have absolutely nada to say*, I'll just put up stuff to make you laugh. The scene above? It's Bill Murray and Carole Kane in the movie "Scrooged." That scene where she beats him up still leaves me in helpless, crying laughter. A lot of people look at me funny when I say that it's my favorite funny scene in all of movieworld, but honest, I don't think I'm a closet sadist, I just think it's hysterically funny.

And for something else to make you laugh? One of the world's happiest songs, "Do You Believe in Magic," from a video of The Lovin' Spoonful. Oh, my! They don't look cool at all, do they? They look like sweet goofball nerds playing air guitar.

*Well, I do have stuff to say, but I have too much election tv to watch. :)

The movie that still makes me laugh out loud all the way through, however, is "Tootsie." I hoot. Repeatedly. In the most undignified way.

What movies have made you snort popcorn through your nose?

Not that you have to talk about that. I'm just throwing out a question to distract you from my own boring self. :p

G'night, sweet voters.

I was glad I didn't see the Scooby-Doo movie until it came out on DVD. When Fred was scolding Scooby about panicking over monsters, and he said, "I haven't been so embarrassed since you cleaned your beans at Don Knotts's Christmas party!" I had to have The Boy stop the movie because I was laughing hysterically. It would have been soooo undignified to be rolling in the aisles, missing five minutes of the movie.

I'm grinning ear-to-ear now, just thinking about that line.

The movie Let It Ride -- the scene where David Johansen is getting a Blood transfusion. It's hilarious. (giggling)

This is going to be fun -- wake up soon!

(secretly an excuse to do that checkbox)

It's weird being first up...I think I like andi beating me up.

Good timing, Nancy - I haven't seen Scrooged, but it's due to arrive via Netflix today. I know what I'll be doing tonight - after watching the Duke game, that is!

Funniest scene: Blazing Saddles, when Cleavon Little talks about his family heading west. Since the white people in the wagon train won't let them into their circle when the Indians attack, they make a circle of their own. A movie filled with funnies and great one-liners.

Morning, everyone!

I don't know if I have a funniest scene in a movie, but my wife pees in her pantaloons at that scene in "Scrooged" every time she sees it.

Want to know what song was playing on the day you were born, check out the link on my blog.

The Harris-Teeter was built too close. Krispy Kreme doughnuts for breakfast this morning. Yummy.

It's wet. FINALLY. Looks like a pure writing day.

Rejections are poring in again. JetReid only took three hours, but that's not even close to my record of 7 minutes. Talk about rejection. I haven't been rejected that fast since I tried to get a date with Courtney Cox many years ago. She didn't have to scream bloody murder.

Hey Beth, I like you beating me up (stop that all of you -- it's wasy too early for kinky thoughts) -- I just wish you'd done it by a lot more.

Just about every scene with Zero Mostel in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum cracks me up but probably my favorite laugh all the way through movie is Gregory's Girl.

Morning all

I was up at 4:08, andi, but did some studying and emailing and breakfasting before I checked in. Which didn't beat you by much, Pacific time!

Hope your trip was painless, and you're enjoying warmer temps than you've been having at home.

Good Morning Beth, Andi & Rick

(I don't wanna go to rehab. I say no, no, no.)

AndiF said...

Howdy kb.

Beth, it's about 45 degrees warmer here, Beth, but I'd still rather be home. Two days of Beige Conference Room of Death for me. Ugh.

Great views of the Rockies, southern Utah, and the Grand Canyon flying out -- made me want to jump out of the plane and go hike.

katiebird said...

Andi, everytime I envy about your work-at-home life -- I remember these travel weeks and am thankful I don't have to do that.

Take care of yourself this week.

Anonymous said...

Funny that you finished the trip in a few hours, andi, and I'm facing a few days to do the same in April. Although the views will be a wee bit different from my perspective. Too bad you couldn't stop on the way and play a little.

Good luck in the BCRoD! Hope they have cinnamon rolls...

And good morning, kb!!!

Morning, all!

Feeling better today and braving the workplace soon.

Nancy, I think Young Frankenstein is probably one of my all-time favorite funny movies.

Rick, hang in there!

Andi, I adore Gregory's Girl. It's been ages since I watched that.

Off for some tea and then the trek to the jobplace.

Happy Wednesday!

katiebird said...

(She said, yes, yes...)

Oh, my brain! Duelling chants....

Hi Rick.

katiebird said...

(gulp) Hi Maria!

AndiF said...

Maria, we are very simpatico on movies -- not only on GG but I love Young Frankenstein too. I think it's Mel Brook's best movie and the triumvirate of Kahn, Garr, and Leachman are just about the funniest female threesome ever. And it definitely wins the award for Best Use of Marty Feldman's Bug Eyes.

And yet another vote for YF!! "Hump? What hump?" :-))

AndiF said...

and Oh. Where you going?... Oh, you men are all alike. Seven or eight quick ones and then you're out with the boys to boast and brag.

katiebird said...

Off to work -- laughing all the way.

Thanks Andi & Beth!

katiebird said...

Nancy, What did I tell you? I knew it would be good. I just wish YOU were here!

Jen said...

Count me in on the Young Frankenstein love, I adored that movie as a child.

Mostly I like really stupid movies, and one movie scene where the funny never gets old for me is the segment in Tommy Boy where Spade & Farley are lost on an Iowa backroad, paying attention to the map instead of the road, and they run over a deer.

They cry over "killing Bambi" and they figure they can't just leave the body there in the road so they load the deer into the backseat of their car. After some time passes and night falls, they are driving along and the deer, which had just been knocked senseless and not dead after all, pops its head up from the backseat. Spade & Farley see it reflected in the rear view mirror and they scream, and then the deer screams, then they screech to a halt and jump out of the car. The deer has a major freakbout and busts out all the car windows with its hooves, rips apart the ragtop with its antlers, basically trashes the entire car, stands atop the hood triumphantly for a moment, then runs off into the wilderness.

Spade is like, "No way that just happened." And Farley just goes, "THAT was AWESOME! Oh, sorry about your car, man."

AndiF said...

Heh Jen, thinking abou bambi and "movies" that make me laugh, brought

  this one

to mind.

Nancy P said...

I say no no no. . .

Okay, so I finally heard Amy Winehouse and can even get the reference! Rick, yeah. But what an unusual voice, wow.

You guys are reminding me of movies I've never seen. Oh, boy. Farfetched with S-C, katiebird with LIR, Andif with AFTHOTWTTF (believe it, or not), Maria with GG, Jen with TB. (The description of the deer scene has me smiling even without ever having seen it.)

Beth, after you see Scrooged you can beat Andi up in a whole new way.

Jen said...

HA, Andi, that's twelve kinds of wrong but very funny.

Young Frankenstein--hoorah!

The Ref--"No guns, no yelling!"

Lilo and Stitch--Lots o stuff.

Enchanted--the cleaning the apartment scene.

The Pink Panther (not sure which)--the assassins killing assassins sequence.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrals--"May I go to the bathroom? Yes." and then Steve Martin's expression, perfect.

Noises Off--"Bag, bag, bag. No bag."

The Birdcage--I'm in hell. And there's a crucifix here.

Must stop and go write. Waves frantically (doing everything frantically right now as February races by).

Morning Nancy and everyone.

I dropped by late last night and before I went back to sleep I was trying to think of what line or movie had me hysterical. Nothing is coming to me though. All the movies everyone has mentioned I love, but I can't remember a falling out of my chair laughing moment.

It in the mid-30's here and our high is supposed to be 47. I guess spring hasn't sprung down here after all.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Nancy P said...

Kelly. . .

The apartment cleaning scene in Enchanted is one of the funniest, most adorable scenes evah, yes!

And Peter Sellers' French accent in The Pink Panther. . .I laugh just to think about it. "grewrrroooommm."

The first few times I saw "Harold and Maude" I still laughed like crazy. Now I don't laugh, but I smile with affection.

Oh, I just remembered one! Was it Mary Poppins where Bert Lahr had that laughing scene where he floated up every time he laughed? CRIED with laughter.

Rick, I want some of whatever you're smoking...or drinking... ::g::

I'm loving this thread - So many one liners, so little time!!

Kelly - yes! Noises Off!! I also adore that movie.

Jen - I love that you saw YF as a child. Reminds me of the time one of our in-house programmers was talking about the newly released 25th anniversary DVD of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (which, I totally left off the list this a.m.). I mentioned that I'd seen it in initial release in the theatre. He had the audacity to say: "I didn't know numbers went up that high." He's lucky I was amused by it.

In closing, some favorite bits:
Frau Blucher!
He vas my... BOYFRIEND
Put... ze candle... *back*!
Go and boil your bottoms, you sons of silly persons!
It's just a flesh wound.

I have really got to watch these movies again soon.

I never said, but I'm so glad Maria Mentioned Young Frankenstein -- I thought about it all day.

I've never been able to watch AFTHOTWTTF do to a memory that has nothing to do with the movie. It might be time to move past it -- but that's my excuse. And considering how much I love Zero Mostel, it's probably not a good one.

....I saw The Producers opening weekend with my parents -- It was so fun to laugh in public with them.

(Nancy, I told you that this would be fun)
