And, presumably, Andi & Jim eat soup!

Andi and Jim both make soup. Andi makes the kneidlach (matzo balls) because Jim does not like getting his hands all gooey. Everybody eats the soup (the dogs always get the very last bits of it)

It's the world's easiest soup to make. Put water in a big soup pot, put chicken pieces in a big pot, cut up onions, carrots, parsnips, turnips, celery, rutabaga, garlic cloves, put them in the big pot, salt and pepper to taste, cook until all the veggies are soft (at least 2 hours).

The matzo balls are a bit more work but still pretty easy.

3 eggs
2 T. oil
1 c. water
salt
pepper
garlic powder
onion powder
1 1/2 c. matzo meal

Beat 3 eggs in bowl. Add oil, water, seasonings, matzo meal. Mix well and let stand for at least one hour in refrigerator, covered. Then take out and mix again. Boil water in large pot with salt. When water is boiling, roll a spoonful of matzo meal mixture in hands that have been wet with cold water. Drop in boiling water and boil all of them for about 20 minutes covered.

BTW, among the many arguments Jews love to have is matzo balls: floaters or sinkers. This is a sinker recipe. You want floaters, you'll have to get a recipe from someone else.

Morning Andi--Sinker Matza balls,
parsnips, turnips, and rutabaga-- I know I'm not in Texas any more.
I love soup and this sounds good.
I really enjoy trying different things. Though I did balk at the soup of the day--sauerkraut and sausage at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls. To die for pie--mine was coconut with mile high meringue.

I grew up with more of a chicken and dumplings. My mom never cooked with those root vegetables so I didn't either. I'm too lazy to make dumplings so use cut up canned biscuits which do float.
I do make a killer chicken pot pie.
Next week I'll do some good cooking with kids and brother here.

Dogs and cats didn't get the holiday sleep later memo. Grr.
Reading Butcher's Storm Front. GREAT SUSPENSE.

Balmy 60 right now.

Sensational Saturday to all.

You guys are making me HUNGRY! I might have to make soup on Monday, when my fam goes back to work. My mom was from NC, so it's chicken and dumplings here, too, Lisa. Thanks for the recipe, andi - sending virtual soup to all sickies.

Still snowing, 18 hours later. Not sure how much has fallen - they were calling for 6-12". I'd have to go outside to actually measure it (eek).

Making candy today while my fam does baklava. When they're not snowblowing! Waving to all still to come...as usual, warm wishes to you.

Mmm, soup! Looks so very yummy.

Good morning and happy weekend, gang! I'm off to get my hair done then spending the rest of the day resting. Way too much socializing this past week for the Lima.

Lisa, I adore Jim's books. Glad you're enjoying them.

::waves hello to those of you coming along later::

Hooray for Saturday!

For what it's worth, I'm just getting over a head cold myself. Still managed to get some good writing done. Hope you're at 100 percent before the holidays.

Yay, soup! Brunswick Stew is the liquid meal of choice down this way. Can't give a recipe, because there's as many ways to make it as there are people who cook it. ;-)

Maria, I finished Blood Bargain this morning! Great ending, I totally did not expect it, and I caught the "do not want" homage to ICHC you threw in there. Just slap your editor for me when you get a chance, OK? I saw at least 5 things an editor should have caught… I know that's tolerable in this day & age but your work deserves better.

Mmmm, matzo ball soup - the best medicine. Thanks for the recipe, Andif.

Only a coating of snow on top of the frozen slush from yesterday, but it's COLD! High of 26 today, 23 tomorrow, 20 on Monday. I don't like winter. :-( Time to go brave the cold, it's errands day.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Hi, all. Andi, sinkers, definitely. I wish I had them for lunch today. It is beautiful out with the snow on the ground and trees. Particularly as I don't have to go out.

parsnips, turnips, rutabaga. . .not in my mother's pantry. In fact, I think I have never met a rutabaga. Not even one I didn't like.

Feeling much closer to human today. Musta been the soup what done it.

I like chicken soup with kugel better than matzoh balls.
