Do not water

Remember Andif's amazing frost flowers?

Those of you who weren't here last winter, have you ever heard of these before?

Because I'd never heard of them until Andi brought them, I now wonder if poets or fiction writers have used them in images and I had no idea what was meant. Won't fool me next time, ha! Oh, wait a minute, yes they will, because I think I have already forgotten. They are formed when frost forms around leaves and then the leaves melt. . .

No, no, that can't be right.

Good morning, a few hours in advance.

Ditto. Closing up shop for the night. Made it to Seattle safely, after stopping to shop along the way. Drizzly, but we're prepared. And a whole day of fun lies ahead tomorrow! Although the hermit in me would rather be home...but I guess even writers have to go out and play in the real world every now and then...

Night AND morning, everyone - have a glorious Saturday!

Morning Nancy and Beth. Beth, hope RL and Seattle treat you very well.

Here's an explanation of frost flowers. [LINK]

And for anyone who would like to see some more frost flowers, I've got bouquet of them from 2007. [LINK]

Just checking in, before I go off on a crazy month dashing about the South in a rental car like I have real intentions. I don't.

Well, I missed everything. Pooh!
People in the hospital, people having birthdays, people traveling all over, and Poetry Day!

I won't have access during most of October. But I will be thinking of everyone here and taking comfort in the thought of you.

I should be home on Halloween. Well, after a morning with a seminar wrap-up and an afternoon in a bookstore in a sleeping little mountain town not too far away.

Please, leave the lights on till this baby gets home.

Aw dang. I just read Tess Gerritsen's post at her blog yesterday about how empty and quiet the bookstores (and all stores) are right now. You know, with the economic downturn being official and all. And this, while she is on tour with a real book.

Screw ghosts on Halloween, people not buying books... Now, that's scary!

One of things that fascinates me is the different mindset we have on this blog.
Frost flowers--love em---but
I woke up this morning to 70 degrees. So the idea of frost is a jolt to my thinking.
Now my brain needs some shaking up.

I know the only way I'm traveling is through you guys. So vicarious be my name on many fronts.

Beth--I am the hermit you talk of. Enjoy Seattle and girl time.

Maria-- Have fun in Baltimore(I needed the translation of what city too.)

Andi--thanks for illustrating life!
You be our bringer of the morn.

Day late and a dollar short sounds like as I'm writing my first novel and Ghost paints that scary bookstore picture. Good luck on tour.

Super--No job, I'll be quiet about no raise. LOVE your car. I've always wanted some big honking car to bomb up to school and surprise my students that there is a cool bone in my body.
But I also really want an Uncle Buck car all smoking and nasty that backfires.
Actually I've had the backfire thing. I would pull up to the grocery store and scrunch down, then turn off the key. After the gigantic boom that sent strangers leaping to the ground in fear of being hurt, I'd eventually get out in a minute or so and hurry into the store.

MaryB--Your talent that I see is a great, kind gentleness coupled with sharp insight. The knitting sounds wonderful. I love and appreciate all types of needlework.

A great weekend to all.
I'm off to devine the true ending of my story. Any creative energy sent my way would be greatly appreciated.

Frost flowers? Is it winter somewhere already? My air conditioning still has to kick on all the time. The seasons are so slippery when one lives in big country. Send a little frost (no pun intended) my way.

Ghost - you're right about empty bookstores being the really scary thing.

Good morning, everyone. I'm having yogurt, fruit, and coffee. There's plenty for all of you.

Hugs,
Kimber

Still fall in the NW, Kimber - 60, windy and rainy in Seattle today. It's 90 in our hotel room - we're pretending we're in Houston!

Safe travels and full bookstores, Ghostie.

Lisa, sending ending vibes your way - as long as you send them back when you're done with them!

Thanks for the flowers, andi - hopefully I'll see a real one someday.

Off to stroll the streets - happy Saturday, everyone!

I reentered a world I hadn't inhabited for a while this morning. A world where your talent is appreciated and sought after and you're spoken to like a professional.

In other words, I got the job about 2 hours after I met the owner :o)

Lisa m,
no woriies about any of that. I know what it's like to be underpaid and unappreciated. You should be frustrated about that. The car though, isn't mine. It's a car I painted.

When I was a kid my first car was a '72 Firebird, primer gray and loud. I couldn't hang with the cool kida who had shiny new Trans Ams and Barracudas that their parents bought them :o) (I hate snobs) But there was a beach we all cruised to and from. Like running a gauntlet with everyone eyeballing your car. I used to stop at the lower lot and pull out and clean all my sparkplugs so that my car would at least sound cool as I cruised the upper lot! Talk about bowing to peer pressure :o) That was also when a returned six pack of Coke bottles bought me enough gas to hit the beach and make it home :o)

Happy Saturday, everyone :o)

Super--Super Dooper Great--a new job and being appreciated.
Your car picture showcases your creativity, while my dream cars are figments of my imagination.
Good luck on the new job.

Beth,Thanks for the End Vibes. I'll rebox and send back your way soon. Probably with a little something extra in appreciation.

Kimber, Pass the fruit and coffee. Hope home and life are back to mostly normal. Seasons changing does have a different meaning down here.

Happy Saturday all. Beth, Seattle is one of my favorite cities so I'm jealous. Have a great time. Hope the mountain's out.

ghost - be safe. See ya at Halloween.

Lisa - thanks for the kind compliment. I may need you as a character reference at other blogs where they don't see my as kindly gentle:) (btw - Nancy made up that part about me knitting. My grandma tried to teach me but I got hopelessly tangled.)

Super - congratulations on the job and a better world.

Kimber, Andi, Nancy - hi and have a good day.

Hey all! Popping in & out… haven't been around most of the day. But I saw an Obama '08 office in Blue Ridge today — talk about heart-warming. Mrs. Fetched's dad was joking about all the McCain yard signs out there… I should get him an Obama sign just so he'll know where to find one. :-D

Super, congrats on the new job!!!

Lisa, you know a motorcycle is cooler than any car, right? Especially for middle school kids. You can make any bike sound bigger by drilling some extra holes in the exhaust, although I wouldn't recommend *doing* that… *grin*

Well, I think I might have gotten myself motivated enough to cut some firewood. It's October out there!

Andif, you must be the most observant person I know. No person I know has ever seen a frost flower and you have a whole bouquet! Goodness, girl, to have your eye for pix! Thanks for sharing.

Hey, Beth, hope you're having tons of fun in Seattle. Hope you have a successful tour, Ghosty. You're right about the economy making for scary times. :-/

Relax and let that creativity flow, Miss Lisa! You use it every day with your kids, now allow it to work for you on your book.

Thanks for the sustenance, Kimberly. How cool to see you here on frost flower day!

Congrats on the new job, Super! Maryb, your attempts at knitting sound like mine when I tried to learn to macrame. Oy, such a mess.

Hi, Nancy. If you're at Sally's, please tell her hello from the blogging crew.

Woo hoo, super! Congrats to the company whut hired ya!

Beth, you're in Seattle? Did you go by motorcycle?

Ghost, bye! I hope your trip is wildly fun and successful.

Lisa, I did make up the knitting part. You can't trust anything I say. :D

Maryb, why I'm sure they see you as K & G over at Boo's.

Kimber! Have you been here since the hurricane? Is life pretty much back to normal?

Hey, farf, didn't mean to leave you out. We must have been commenting at the same time. Be careful out there cutting firewood. It must be firewood cutting season. Someone just emailed the following to me today. Hope you enjoy.

'Hello, is this the Sheriff's Office?'
'Yes. What can I do for you?'
'I'm calling to report 'bout my
neighbor Virgil Smith. He's hidin' marijuana inside
his firewood! Don't quite know how he gets it inside
them logs, but he's hidin' it there.'
'Thank you very much for the call, sir.'
The next day, twelve Sheriff's Deputies descend
on Virgil's house. They search the shed where the firewood is kept. Using axes, they bust open every piece of wood, but find no marijuana.
They sneer at Virgil and leave.
Shortly, the phone rings at Virgil's house.
'Hey, Virgil! This here's Floyd....Did the Sheriff come?'
'Yeah!'
'Did they chop your firewood?'
'Yep!'
'Happy Birthday, buddy!'

Andi, thanks. I'm sure I will only ask you ten more times over the next year.

Hee! Maryb, I seem to have started a naughty knitting rumor about you.

Far, give him a button, too! :D

Bono, I haven't been to Sally's today. We had a Sisters in Crime meeting and I had other stuff to do, too.

Nancy, Liar, liar pants on fire
is what I actually say in class at times.
Have to be really over the top when holding their feet to the fire not to get their dander up.
It's your blog, you embellish all you want to.

If I become the target of embellishment, can it be something fun and exciting?
Reality is so boring at times. Maybe we need self embellishment day.

lol, Lisa. I wondered why my jeans felt so warm.

My football team is lookin' good.

Had a great day in Seattle - one of my favorite cities, too. But no mountain, maryb, boo hoo. I don't feel as tho it's a proper Seattle trip til I see her. Maybe tomorrow...we had rain, sun, HUGE winds that blew us up the hill from the waterfront to the shopping areas - just a typical Seattle weather day. Too much food, too much shopping, but a heck of a good time.

Nancy, I'm here with the girls, so we drove. Bill and his Harley are safely at home. He's testing the new hot tub, readying it for my return.

Now we've waddled home, we're going to crash. It'll be good to be home tomorrow - and hopefully MY football team will do better this week, since Nancy's team smushed them last Sunday. Night, everyone!
